Graduated from Hubei Institute of Fine Arts, Central Academy of Fine Arts, and Huazhong University of Science and Technology.
Xu Yongmin served as the president of Hubei Institute of Fine Arts from 2003 to 2017.
Currently a professor at Hubei Institute of Fine Arts and a doctoral supervisor at City University of Macau.
Xu Yongmin is also a member of the Cultural and Historical Research Institute of the Hubei Provincial People's Government, President of the Calligraphy and Painting Institute, Vice President of the China Democratic League at Central Academy of Fine Arts and President of the China Democratic League at Hubei Academy of Fine Arts, and Director of the Teaching Guidance Committee for Fine Arts and Design in institutions of higher-learning of Hubei Province.
Awarded the title of "Cultural Figure of Hubei", Professor Xu enjoys a special allowance from the State Council.
毕业于湖北美术学院、中央美术学院、华中科技大学,现为湖北美术学院教授、澳门城市大学博士生导师。2003-2017 年任湖北美术学院院长。湖北省人民政府文史馆馆员,书画院院长。民盟中央美术院副院长、民盟湖北美术院院长,湖北省高校美术与设计教学指导委员会主任,获“湖北文化名家”称号,享受国务院特殊津贴。
1981: "New Sound of Ancient Music" won third prize at the Second National Youth Art Exhibition.
1984: "Crescent Moon" (co-created) won the gold medal at the Sixth National Art Exhibition; featured in the first International Comic Festival in Switzerland, and granted a special honor award; collected by the National Art Museum of China.
1984: "Home" won the silver medal at the Sixth National Art Exhibition; collected by the National Art Museum of China.
1989: "Invisible Collection" won the silver medal at the Seventh National Art Exhibition and the gold medal at the Seventh Hubei Province Art Exhibition.
1991: "Person in a Suit" won a special award for excellent art books at the First China Excellent Art Book Awards and the First Prize at the Fifth China Book Awards.
1995: "Flying Up" won the Excellent Work Award at the Eighth National Art Exhibition.
2001: Received funding from the Ministry of Education's "Excellent Young Teacher" program.
2004: Awarded the title of "Excellent Graduate Mentor in Hubei Province."
2011: Participated in the "Paint the Silk Road" project organized by the China Federation of Literary and Art Circles and the China Artists Association, creating the work "Eastern Land of the Great Tang."
2012: Led the Ministry of Education's Humanities and Social Sciences Research Project on "Research on Chu Art and Pre-Qin Art Forms in Southern China," completed in 2015.
2014: Awarded the title of "Cultural Luminary of Hubei."
2016: "New Document: Xu Yongmin" exhibition at the Guangzhou Academy of Fine Arts Museum.
2016: Curated the exhibitions "The Anomalies of the Mind Map" and "Looking Up and Down" featuring Markus Lüpertz and Zhou Shaohua at the Hubei Academy of Fine Arts Museum.
2017: "Rebuilt Document: Xu Yongmin" exhibition at the Tianjin Academy of Fine Arts Museum.
2018: Xu Yongmin illustration and text exhibition at the Hubei Art Museum.
2019: "Everyday Narrative" - Xu Yongmin Solo Exhibition at Art Xiamen International Fair.
2019: Invited to present a paper titled "The Gallery Notes—Generation and Change of Social Aesthetic Quality in Public Space" at the 21st World Aesthetics Conference in Belgrade, Serbia.
2019: The work "Sunlight Bright" was featured in the 10th International Ink Painting Biennale in Shenzhen.
2019: Participated in the "Ink and Object" Second Wuhan Ink Painting Biennale at the Wuhan Art Museum.
2019: Led the National Social Science Fund Art Project "Research on the Interactivity between Arts Education for Youth in the New Era and the Expanded Functions of Art Museums," completed in 2022.
2020: Works were featured in the "Ink Painting in Progress: 2000-2019" at the Guangdong Museum of Art.
2021: The work "Grace" was featured in the 80th Anniversary Member Exhibition of the China Democratic League, collected by the National Art Museum of China.
2022: Works "Sunlight Bright" and "Nine Songs, Nine Melodies" were featured in the First Wuhan Biennale at United Art Museum.
2023: The work "Nine Songs, Nine Melodies" was featured in the 2023 Chengdu Biennale at the Chengdu Museum of Art.
